ACCORDING to Fluke, electricians should check their test leads before they connect their test tools to electrical circuits.
Fluke points out that test leads are an integral part of the complete measurement system, in a new free application note titled ‘Testing your test leads for electrical measurement safety.’
Fluke says poorly made, worn or under-rated test leads can cause inaccurate readings. They are more than simply a connection for digital multimeters.
Inferior test leads can also drastically increase the risk of shock or electrocution if the operator touches live wires that the multimeter has shown to be de-energised, according to Fluke.
Fluke manufactures a broad range of tools, including test leads, to test electrical systems and circuits, HVAC systems, process controls and other electrical and mechanical equipment.
