Infrared cameras monitor molten steel ladles

INFRARED cameras manufactured by FLIR Systems are being employed to monitor heat levels in steelwork operations.

The ThermoVision A320G infrared camera is used to monitor the condition of the ladles that carry the molten steel between production stages. These ladles are coated in refractory materials that withstand the high temperatures, which can reach 1500 degrees Celsius.

The manufacturer says the cameras can monitor if the ladles are continuing to handle the temperatures. If the refractory chemicals are not replaced regularly the ladle could burst.

The company claims the cameras can be linked with Automation Technology’s IRMonitor software to ensure a dangerous and costly situation can be avoided.
