THERMO Fisher Scientific has released a range of contamination monitoring systems for the nuclear power industry.

Models in the 12 Series include the SAM12 small article monitor and the PM12 personnel gamma portal monitor.

The company says the units both use the QuickScan algorithm, which significantly reduces the counting time when items or personnel are exceedingly above or below the normal exposure level. This allows the unit to detect contamination status within ten seconds.

According to the manufacturer, the SAM12 is an upgrade of the preceding SAM11 model and monitors gamma emitting radionuclides. It has new electronics which can differentiate between natural and man-made radiation.
