BESTECH Australia is supplying a speed sensor for metalworking applications developed by Micro-Epsilon.

The ASCOspeed 5500 has a scalable pulse output and can be used as an alternative to shaft-encoders. It will measure speeds regardless of surfaces with changing colours, coatings and reflective properties.

According to the distributor, multiple devices can be operated simultaneously to provide precise results in acceleration phases. This allows the measurement of differential velocities, such as for mass-flow-control or elongation-control.

The non-contact device uses a LED light source combined with the phase grouping principle and has a customisable measuring range.

The company says is designed for use in rolling mills, straightening lines, inspection and coating lines, cutting and winding systems as well as extruder systems, inspection, welding and bending lines and extruded profile production lines.
